Gaming establishments in Chile paid a substantial sum in taxes during the year 2021. The total amount of taxes paid by the 20 gambling venues in the country reached 89.7 billion Chilean pesos, which is equivalent to $111.6 million, €97.3 million, or £81.9 million. This significant tax revenue represents a recovery for the industry, which had been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tax revenue includes a substantial contribution from regional governments, totaling 412.6 billion Chilean pesos. An additional 393.1 billion Chilean pesos was collected from value-added tax. The remaining 9.1 billion Chilean pesos came from income tax.

Regional authorities will receive the funds one month after the operators make their payments, meaning they will receive them in March 2022.

Prior to this, the Chilean gambling industry generated a total gambling revenue of 294.25 billion Chilean pesos in the calendar year. December alone saw a total revenue of 45.96 billion Chilean pesos.

December’s revenue was significantly higher than the figures recorded in 2020 and even surpassed the monthly total of 2019, before the pandemic struck, by 10%.

Due to the strong performance in December, the 20 casinos paid 14.21 billion Chilean pesos in taxes during that month, significantly exceeding the amount paid the previous year.

The Monticello Casino in the O’Higgins region paid the highest amount in taxes, totaling 3.75 billion Chilean pesos. The Enjoy Viña del Mar Casino in the Valparaíso region followed closely, paying 1.52 billion Chilean pesos in taxes. The Marina del Sol Talcahuano Casino in the Biobío region came in third, paying 1.4 billion Chilean pesos in taxes that month.

The newly formed entity, resulting from the recent union of Carrier Enjoy and Dream, will now hold sway over a substantial portion of the nation’s gaming sector, encompassing a commanding 58%.
