The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) plans to request Australian internet service providers to restrict access to eighteen unauthorized online gambling sites.

The ACMA stated they received numerous complaints regarding these eighteen websites and determined they contravened the Interactive Gambling Act of 2001 following an investigation.

The blocked brands encompass Syndicate Casino, Fast Pay Casino, BitStarz, and King Billy Casino.

Website blocking constitutes one of several enforcement actions the ACMA utilizes to suppress unlicensed gambling within the jurisdiction.

Since the agency initially requested blocking in November 2019, two hundred and twenty-two gambling websites have been blocked. This includes blocking orders issued in August, October, and November 2020.

Furthermore, the ACMA indicated that over one hundred unlicensed operators have withdrawn from the Australian market since the agency commenced enforcing new offshore gambling regulations in 2017.

In November, the ACMA reminded all licensed operators in Australia to adhere to gambling advertising regulations after the agency highlighted inconsistencies in the industry’s interpretation of these controls.

The agency has been monitoring the efficacy of the advertising rules since their introduction in 2018.

Although no significant problems were discovered, there were definitely variations in how gambling companies articulated their regulations.
