ACMA Cracks Down on Illegal Gambling Websites in Australia

The Australian media watchdog, ACMA, is taking a firm stance against unlawful internet gambling. Their efforts are concentrated on shutting down websites that advertise and direct users to these questionable gaming platforms. This encompasses those sly affiliate marketing sites and those purported “unbiased review” websites that frequently serve as covers for illicit activities.

In 2017, the Interactive Gambling Act of 2001 granted ACMA expanded authority to address this problem. They now possess the power to mandate that Australian internet providers (ISPs) assist in restricting access to these dubious websites.

A primary objective for ACMA is blocking websites that directly connect to illegal gambling services. Among the websites in their sights are Aussie Casino Hex, Australia OK Casinos, Aussie Online Pokies, Pokies, Australian Casino Club, Australian Gambling, and True-Blue Casinos.

Fiona Cameron, an ACMA board member, views this as a critical action in combating these unscrupulous operators and safeguarding susceptible Australians.

“These promotional websites can lead individuals down a perilous road to unregulated and unlicensed gambling services,” she cautioned. “We regularly receive reports from Australians who have fallen victim to scams perpetrated by these sites – they entice users with bonuses they never intend to honor and employ exploitative tactics to take advantage of individuals grappling with gambling addiction.”

This represents the most recent maneuver in ACMA’s continuous struggle to eradicate illicit online gambling.

Government officials in Australia have taken significant action against unlawful wagering, forcing the closure of numerous internet platforms and severely restricting entry to the most frequented ones. Their efforts have effectively dismantled a substantial portion of the illicit gambling market.
