Australia Cracks Down on Illegal Gambling Websites

Internet service providers in Australia have been directed to restrict access to an expanded list of dubious gambling and affiliate marketing websites. This action is being taken by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), which aims to safeguard Australians from fraudulent activities.

Among the recent sites targeted for restriction are Pokies Parlour, Ninja Spins, Pokies Online Casino, CasinoAus, Australian Casino Sites, and AU Online Casino. Following an investigation, the ACMA determined that these sites were operating in violation of the Interactive Gambling Act of 2001.

This is not the first instance of the ACMA intervening to block questionable gambling websites. Since 2019, they have blocked a significant number of illegal gambling websites, totaling 426. Furthermore, since the implementation of stricter regulations in 2017, over 160 illegal gambling operations have ceased operations within Australia.

The ACMA strongly advises Australians to exercise caution, emphasizing that the appearance of legitimacy does not guarantee a website’s trustworthiness. They stress that engaging with illegal gambling services exposes individuals to the risk of financial loss.

Rumors are circulating that over one-tenth of Australians – specifically 11% – are engaging in online wagering currently. This signifies an increase from 8% in 2020. It seems digital gaming has gained significant traction in Australia!
